Breast Augmentation

For women who naturally have a small bust, breast augmentation can contribute to greater self-confidence. Besides wanting to enhance her body contour because she feels her breasts are too small, a patient may choose this procedure for many other reasons, such as correcting a reduction in volume after pregnancy, balancing a difference in size, and reconstructing the breast following surgery.

For enhancement, also known as “augmentation mammaplasty,” there are a variety of factors that influence which type of implant is best for your body, as well as the insertion method, and sizing. Dr. Sarah Mess can address any of your concerns about this procedure during a consultation visit.

Breast Lift

Not only does a woman’s body change while she is pregnant, but after she gives birth, she is left with changes she may not feel comfortable with. A breast lift is a surgical procedure that can help to raise and reshape sagging breasts. As time progresses and a woman ages, gravity will also have an effect on the appearance of her bust. Although a breast lift offers successful results, it does not guarantee permanence, because factors like pregnancy, gravity, aging, and weight fluctuations may affect your body contour down the road.

Technically called “Mastopexy,” this procedure can also reduce the size of the areola (darker area surrounding the nipple), and, in conjunction with breast augmentation, may serve to increase firmness and size.

Breast Reduction

While many women desire larger breasts, there are also those individuals who are eager to alleviate the burden of heavy, pendulous breasts. Breast reduction, or “reduction mammaplasty,” is a procedure that may be covered by a patient’s health insurance, due to the numerous medical problems that may result from oversized breasts. The strain associated with heavy breast weight may cause back and neck pain, deepened shoulder grooves from bra straps, skin irritation, and skeletal deformities.

During breast reduction surgery, Dr. Mess will remove excess fat, glandular tissue and skin from the breasts in order to create a smaller and firmer bust size. The common benefits of this procedure are greater self-confidence, an improved contour, and great physical relief.

Breast Reconstruction

One of the most rewarding surgical procedures offered to women is breast reconstruction surgery. After the removal of a breast due to cancer or any other disease, it is important for her to feel healthy and happy again about her image. Although there are various options for patients to consider with breast reconstruction, new medical techniques have made it possible for surgeons to create a breast nearly identical to a natural breast. For beautiful results, an implant may even be used for this procedure.

Breast removal is a stressful experience for a patient, and weighing reconstructive options following this procedure may only add to anxiety and frustration. However, talking to a doctor about the possibility of regaining your original shape can help you have a clearer understanding of what is best for your body.

Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)

Gynecomastia, a condition that is caused by excess fat and/or glandular tissue, gives some men oversized, female-like breasts. This condition is more common than most people think – affecting about 40 to 60 percent of the male population.

Liposuction, typically used for male breast reduction, will help to give a patient an improved contour and higher self-confidence. Healthy and emotionally stable men of any age who show noticeable signs of gynecomastia are ideal candidates for this procedure
