What is vaginal rejuvenation? Can it relieve Stress Urinary Incontinence?  Do women want or need it?

This year I was asked to sit on the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s light based energy panel. The panel reviews and examines existing and newly introduced laser and energy based devices for the society. One of the technologies reviewed by our panel is LVR-Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation. If you’ve never heard of this technology you are not alone, but it is one of the most talked about advances in aesthetic circles worldwide. Within the past two years no less than five major laser companies have introduced energy based vaginal rejuvenation devices designed to improve both the function and aesthetics of the vaginal area. Diva, Mona Lisa touch, Thermi Va, Fem Touch, Core Intima, Intimalase all offer laser or energy based vaginal rejuvenation. We think Sciton’s Diva is one of the best.

What Can Cause a Decline in Vaginal Health?

Two of the most significant events in a woman’s life can also lead to a decline in vaginal health:

Childbirth: Childbirth stretches the vaginal canal and surrounding tissue. For many women the body’s own healing response repairs the damage and they return to normal health. For others, however, the tissue will not return to a pre-childbirth state. For these women the damages from stretching the vaginal walls, perineum and surrounding tissues can lead to diminished vaginal health and function.

Menopause: Reduced estrogen levels associated with menopause and other events such as hysterectomy, chemotherapy, or the process of breast-feeding lead to thinning, drying and inflammation of the vaginal walls.

What Can I Expect From Laser Vaginal Tightening Treat?

LVR can improve and correct a variety of women’s vaginal health issues.

  • Improve Stress Urinary Incontinence
  • Improve Vaginal Dryness and Laxity
  • Increase Comfort During Intercourse
  • Naturally Increase Vaginal Lubrication

The promise of addressing urinary incontinence alone is enough to pique the interest of many women. Combining it with options to improve their outward appearance and relieve chronic conditions like post-menopausal dryness and laxity make vaginal rejuvenation a sought after treatment.

How Does It Work?

LVR typically requires series of three treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart. Diva treatment times are five minutes or less and the recovery is pain free with no downtime other than avoiding intercourse for 48 hours.

How Long Do The Results Last & How Much Does Vaginal Rejuvenation Cost?

The technology is very new, so we don’t have long term results studies. Patients will need an initial series of 3 treatments and may opt for a maintenance treatment after twelve months. Treatment cost is approximately $3500 for a series of three treatments or $1300 for an individual treatment.

Should We Add Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation To Our Practice?

Thank you to everyone who responded to our survey. We added Sciton’s diVa to our practice in December of 2016. For more information on diVa procedures see diVa laser. We look forward to hearing from you!
