Laser Resurfacing

Laser Skin Resurfacing is a controlled injury to your skin. Lasers deliver precise bursts of light that remove the upper layers of skin to reveal younger and healthier tissue. These treatments combined with a quality skin care regimen will achieve lasting results: smooth, clear, and more youthful looking skin.

Laser Resurfacing: Results Vs. Recovery

Generally speaking, the deeper the resurfacing the better the results will be. The trade off is that the deeper the resurfacing, the longer the recovery will be as well. Patients that have a very active lifestyle and want minimal downtime often opt for a series of Weekend MicroLaser Peels to achieve the desired results, whereas patients who can afford 5-10 days of downtime opt for a single deep resurfacing treatment.

Patients with deep wrinkles and significant skin imperfections will usually obtain the best results with a single deep resurfacing, but a micro peel series will achieve significant improvement of wrinkles, fine lines and other skin imperfections.

Laser Resurfacing: Recovery

The recovery phases for deep resurfacing and micro peels follow the same format. The difference is in the amount of downtime required to complete the healing.

Micro peel patients should expect 2-3 days (5-7 days for deep resurfacing) where the skin will be red and sensitive during the initial healing phase. During this time you will need to avoid sun and wind exposure and maintain a moisture barrier for the skin. Laser balm will be provided in your recovery kit and should be used through the initial recovery period. After the initial recovery period patients can transition to lighter moisturizer and sunscreen.

The redness will gradually fade to pink and the pink will fade gradually over the next couple of weeks depending on the depth of the resurfacing. Patients can resume regular activity after one to two weeks depending on depth of resurfacing.

Protect Your Investment!

Patients should protect the treated areas from sun and wind exposure during all stages of recovery. Post procedure skincare products are included in Dr. Mess’ laser treatments and they are essential to the success of your treatment.

Alternatives to Laser Resurfacing

There are non-laser medical spa treatments that offer other options for rejuvenation and skin therapy. BBL photo facials (IPL-Intense Pulsed Light treatments) deliver a series of intense light pulses to erase visible sun damage, brown spots, discoloration and visible blood vessels. BBL Forever Young treatments also work to stimulate collagen formation and leave patients with healthier, younger looking skin. IPL can even be used to lighten the color of red scars.

How Much Does Laser Resurfacing Cost?

The costs associated with laser resurfacing will vary based on the depth of the procedure and may include:

  • Surgeon’s fee
  • Facility costs
  • Anesthesia fees
  • Prescriptions for medication
  • Required post procedure skincare

It is important to remember that your ultimate satisfaction will be based on a lot more than fee. Dr. Mess combines the training, experience and dedicated care to provide exceptional results for her laser resurfacing patients.
