A full upper lip that is proportionate to the bottom lip can balance the face and is considered a sign of youthful beauty and vitality. A thin upper lip can be responsible for what’s referred to as a “gummy smile,” and it can make the face appear unsymmetric. However, even if you weren’t born with a naturally plump upper lip you can easily look as though you did with a quick lip flip treatment. A lip flip procedure uses Botox or Dysport to create the appearance of a fuller upper lip. Dr. Sarah Mess and her dedicated team of master trained aesthetic injectors in the DMV area have years of experience utilizing injectables in cosmetic procedures for natural-looking lip enhancement treatments. This, combined with expertise in facial anatomy ensures that each patient achieves the perfect lip pout they’ve been dreaming of without the need for invasive cosmetic surgery.Schedule Your Consultation
Botox Lip Flip Treatment
The Botox lip flip is a minimally invasive approach to creating the illusion of fuller lips by enhancing the natural shape without adding volume. The lip flip is a treatment that involves the placement of several units of Botox along the orbicularis oris muscle near the cupid’s bow or vermillion border, to relax the tension in this muscle and “flip” the lip for a fuller, poutier look. The Botox relaxes the muscle enough to effectively flip the underside of the top lip outward, making more of the upper lip visible and creating a plumper, fuller, yet completely natural-looking upper lip.
Benefits of Botox Lip Flip
Botox injections in the top lip can create a fuller-looking, more relaxed upper lip. In addition, a Botox lip flip is a form on non-invasive lip augmentation that:
- Creates the appearance of a fuller upper lip
- Reduces the appearance of a gummy smile
- Is a cost-effective alternative to lip enhancement with dermal fillers
- Offers natural-looking results
- Is minimally-invasive treatment
- Requires no downtime and/or recovery
- Is a quick and easy procedure
- Offers visible results in just a few days
- Can improve self-confidence
Botox Lip Flip Procedure
When you arrive at your lip flip appointment, your lip injection specialist will swab the treatment area with alcohol to disinfect the skin and possibly apply a topical numbing cream. She’ll then determine the precise locations to place your Botox and make several small injections. After the injections are complete, the treatment area will be swabbed with alcohol again and you’ll be provided with an ice pack to reduce swelling. The entire treatment takes approximately 10 minutes.
Botox Lip Flip Vs Lip Enhancement With Lip Fillers
Botox lip flips and dermal fillers both enhance the shape of your lips and create the appearance of fuller lips. However, while the lip flip procedure makes the top lip appear plumper by exposing more of your natural lip tissue, dermal fillers like Restylane or Juvederm make the lips appear fuller by adding synthetic volume in the form of hyaluronic acid.
Dermal lip fillers are typically more expensive than Botox. While a Botox lip flip costs about $150, lip enhancement using a dermal filler starts at roughly $650 and can often cost well over $1000. And while lip enhancement with filler offers visible results immediately following the injection, results from a Botox lip flip are apparent in 5-7 days following your treatment.
Finally, the effects of a Botox lip flip procedure generally last for eight to 12 weeks while lip enhancement with dermal fillers can last from several months up to two years.
Dr. Mess is definitely an expert at Botox as well as so many other cosmetic procedures. I had a Botox "Lip Flip" using Botox recently with Dr. Mess as well as Botox in the forehead to lift my brows. Subtle but noticeable improvements. Been having Botox injections for years (and a facelift) and look about 15 years younger than my real age (67). Thanks Dr. Mess!Real Patient - Realself
