How to keep your face from aging?

Tuesday December 3, 2013 | Age Defense, Uncategorized

How can you delay facial aging? By caring for your skin.

People are living longer today than ever before. BBL photofacials and quality skin care products can help keep you looking younger, longer.

Look Younger, Longer

Look Younger, Longer

We want our best face forward as we expand our education, careers, and relationships. While many patients focus on Botox and fillers to help smooth lines and fill wrinkles, patients can enjoy long term benefits by incorporating skin care products and BBL photofacials throughout the year. The earlier patients start anti-aging routines the better their results will be, but patients of any age will benefit from a professional assessment of their skin. With the increased prevalence of skin cancer the assessment is about more than unwanted crows feet. It can literally be a lifesaver.

There are so many skincare products on the market today it’s hard to tell one from the other and even harder to know which ones work. I spend a significant amount of time each year researching skincare products. Over the years I’ve developed a core line of products that I believe in. Our primary brands are SkinMedica and Elta. For anti-aging my personal favorite is SkinMedica’s Essential Serum.  Essential Serum is packed with growth factors for skin, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid.  It smooths wrinkles and restores glow without irritation.

Sunshine brings happiness……. and eventually sunspots.  SkinMedica’s Lytera brightens the skin and lessens sunspots with a touch of retinol that reduces wrinkles and acne.  The scent and texture of Lytera is luxurious and the results are illuminating.  Lytera is a new alternative to the previously used hydroquinone, so patients can receive brighter skin without hydroquinone.

Anti-aging skin regimens have always relied on vitamin A derivatives such as tretinoin and retinol.  These are core part of most skincare regimens, but some patients find them irritating. The Skinmedica retinols deliver the strength of a traditional retinA product without the irritation.  SkinMedica retinols increase skin cell turnover which diminishes wrinkles and acne and they contain buffers that allow for less irritation without diluting the strength. Patients using retinol should not be pregnant or nursing.

Every skin care regimen should include sunscreen. Elta MD Sunscreen has approval of the American Academy of Dermatology for preventing skin cancer.  Elta offers some of the best physical sunscreens available. The products are light and invisible on the skin. Elta offers a wide range of sunscreens to satisfy patients with oily, dry, and sensitive skin.

BBL photofacials complement skin care and they can actually change the structure of the skin to reveal a more youthful glow. I will dedicate a future blog post to BBL and other laser treatments. If you’d like to know more about them in the meantime please look at our Aesthetic Laser page.
