CoolSculpting is an exciting new FDA-cleared procedure that freezes stubborn fat with controlled and targeted cooling. Dr. Sarah Mess is the first plastic surgeon in Maryland to offer CoolSculpting. She has completed over a 1,000 treatments and is busier than ever as more patients from the Baltimore, Bethesda and Columbia, Maryland areas discover the benefits of this natural and healthy way to remove stubborn fat.
Fat freezes at a higher temperature than skin, muscle and surrounding tissue and this is the core science behind CoolSculpting. It sounds too good to be true, but the results are real and undeniable. CoolSculpting’s Treatment to Transformation (T2T) allows us to truly sculpt a new you by targeting stubborn fat to produce liposuction like results with no needles, no surgery, and no downtime. Best Candidates for CoolSculpting
The ideal candidates for CoolSculpting are people in general good health that are within 20-30 lbs of their target weight that have at least one inch of fat they can pinch. The next time you go to a Ravens or Orioles game look around you….. a lot of Marylanders are CoolSculpting candidates.
Nearly everyone accumulates pockets of fat over time and these become more difficult to get rid of as we get older. Work, children, life, ESPN and the couch all get in the way of getting and keeping our ideal figures. Problem fat doesn’t care where you work or if you are a man or a woman. The good news is, neither does CoolSculpting.
CoolSculpting is successful on larger patients as well, but patients who are more than 30 lbs above their target weight will likely require more treatments to achieve the best results. Vanquish may be a more economical treatment for larger patients.
Patients that have visceral fat (think of the stereotypical beer gut) are not ideal patients. If you have a large stomach, but it’s hard as a rock Dr. Mess will need to look at other options to help achieve your goals, but if you can pinch and inch, or two, or more…. CoolSculpting may be just the answer you have been looking for. A safe and natural way to lose your unwanted fat on your abdomen, flanks, and thighs.
The Right Applicator and the Right Plan
CoolSculpting offers five different applicators. Each is specially designed to treat specific areas.
The CoolSmooth applicator was introduced in April of 2014. This “flat” applicator is designed to treat non-pinchable areas of fat such as inner and outer thighs. CoolSculpting received FDA clearance for fat reduction of the thighs in the spring of 2014, so don’t be thigh shy anymore!
The CoolFit applicator has a straight cup and is ideal for vertical treatment to sculpt the stomach and can be used in other places where a curved applicator will not draw.
The CoolCurve+ offers a sculpted cup and deep curved cooling plates allowing it to fit smaller patients while providing deep suction and exceptional results. It is typically used to treat the flanks and bra roll area.
The CoolCore is similar in fit and function to the CoolCurve+ with a slightly different cup profile.
The CoolMax is the largest of the four applicators and can treat approximately 2.5X the area of the other applicators. It is most often used to treat and debulk the stomach area, but it is also well suited to other areas, particularly on larger patients.
Dr. Sarah Mess uses Zeltiq’s Treatment to Transformation (T2T) protocols in her Columbia, Maryland practice. During your consultation Dr. Mess will review your goals and evaluate your body type to see if you are a candidate and see what treatment or combination of treatments will best achieve your goals.
CoolSculpting is unlike any other fat reduction treatment on the market today. The science behind it is proven. Dr. Mess and her staff have extensive training and years of experience with the technology. You can be assured that you are receiving the right advice, treatment plan, and applicator when you choose CoolSculpting with Dr. Sarah Mess.
Preparing for CoolSculpting
Wear comfortable clothing on your procedure day. Each cycle takes about an hour to complete. You can get up between treatment cycles but you will need to plan on staying put for an hour at a time, so plan accordingly. Bring something to read, schedule your conference call (yes, people have done it) or enjoy Netflix on our CoolSculpting Ipad. That’s it. Show up, dress comfortably, and relax.
The CoolSculpting Treatment
All CoolSculpting treatments are performed at Dr. Sarah Mess’s office in Columbia, MD. During the procedure you will either sit or lie down depending on what areas are being CoolSculpted. At the start of the treatment Dr. Mess will mark the areas being treated and a gel pad will be applied to the area. This protects the skin and provides lubrication to help get a better draw in the applicator.
When the applicator is applied you will feel the vacuum as your fatty tissue is drawn into the applicator. Some people describe the feeling as intense pulling, tugging or pinching. The tugging will be followed by an initial sensation of cold as the cooling cycle begins. In 5-10 minutes the area will become numb. There may be some tingling or aching, but these sensations typically subside in the first 15 minutes.
After approximately an hour the cycle will be complete. The vacuum will be turned off and the applicator removed. At this point you should have a “frozen stick of butter” where the applicator was. This area will be massaged to help regain sensation and speed recovery.
Immediately post procedure the treated area will appear red and there may be some bruising. The bruising should resolve itself in one to two weeks. Some patients report tingling and stinging in the treatment area while others experience dulled sensation. These symptoms normally resolve themselves within a few hours to days, but they can last for several weeks after treatment.
CoolSculpting recovery Symptoms are usually well managed with a combination of over the counter medications and ice…..Yes, ice. It may seem counter intuitive, but the initial treatment for most injuries is to ice and elevate the area, and your CoolSculpting treatment just injured a considerable amount of fat cells throughout the treatment area.
Results From CoolSculpting
Some patients see results in as little as three weeks, but most see the best results after two to three months and final results are achieved after about four months. We encourage patients to compare the results of CoolSculpting to Vanquish, Liposuction, and a Tummy Tuck. These are all effective treatments, but each provides different results. With the right treatment plan patients can achieve liposuction like results without surgery or down time. As good as CoolSculpting is however, it’s not a Tummy Tuck. Of course you can’t watch a movie, join a conference call, get a Botox touch up, and then head straight to your daughter’s soccer game right after a tummy tuck, but CoolSculpters can. That’s part of the beauty of the treatment. It allows you to live your life without putting your life on hold.
How much does CoolSculpting cost
CoolSculpting costs are based on the applicator and the number of cycles you choose. Patients can take advantage of package pricing when they commit to a multiple cycle treatment plan. These T2T packages offer the best results at the lowest costs.
Patients should discuss their goals during the consultation and see what package is best suited to achieve their personal goals. Our T2T package pricing is very competitive.
