Lip Enhancement With Dermal Fillers

Plump, well-defined lips are widely considered a sign of beauty and youth, however, genetic factors and the effects of aging can often lead to a less than perfect pout. Lips that appear thin, lined, and shapeless can be enhanced by using dermal fillers to create voluptuous, smooth, and natural-looking lips. Years of experience utilizing dermal fillers for natural-looking lip enhancement, along with a deep understanding of facial anatomy, allows Dr. Sarah Mess’ talented team of physician assistants and trained aesthetic specialists to provide patients throughout the DMV area with a treatment plan that achieves the results they desire.

Lip Filler

Lip enhancement with injectable dermal fillers can add volume, modify the shape, and smooth out the lines that form on and around lips. In fact, today injectable dermal fillers are the most common form of lip augmentation.1 There are a variety of dermal fillers that can be injected to enhance the appearance of your lips, but most lip fillers are made of gel containing hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a substance naturally produced in the body that works to retain water and keep connective tissues moist, while in lip fillers HA helps to increase volume.

Your facial anatomy is unique, as is your ideal lip shape and size. During your consultation, we encourage you to bring photos that illustrate the lips you want to achieve so your aesthetic specialist can create a custom treatment plan to deliver a perfectly kissable pout that suits your face.

Benefits of Lip Enhancement With Dermal Fillers

Fuller, more well-defined lips can improve facial contour, and for many, this cosmetic enhancement also provides a boost in self-confidence. In addition, injectable fillers in the lips:

  • Add volume and/or definition to the lips
  • Reduce the appearance of smokers lines
  • Minimize wrinkles in the mouth area
  • Provide a more youthful-looking appearance
  • Is performed in a quick and easy procedure
  • Can be done gradually over several treatments for optimal results
  • Require no downtime

Preparing for Lip Enhancement With Dermal Fillers

During your initial consultation, your trained cosmetic injector will evaluate your facial features and your goals for lip enhancement and then create a customized plan to address your concerns and achieve your goals.

Lip Enhancement With Dermal Fillers Procedure

Once you’ve signed off on your treatment plan, your aesthetic specialist will swab the mouth area with a sterile solution and then inject the filler of choice. She’ll swab the treatment area again after the injection and provide you with an ice pack to use for the next half hour to reduce any swelling. It’s important that you don’t apply too much pressure or forcefully rub the injection site for the 24 hours following your lip enhancement procedure.

Recovery After Lip Enhancement With Dermal Fillers

After lip enhancement with dermal fillers, some patients may experience mild swelling and bruising at the injection sites. While these symptoms will gradually subside over the next few days, you can continue to apply ice to speed this process along. If you find that the bruising is noticeable, we recommend using a mineral-based makeup as your post-procedure coverup.

Long Term Results after Lip Enhancement With Dermal Fillers

Lip enhancement with dermal fillers can add volume, smooth out wrinkles, and improve facial symmetry. Dermal fillers are safe and effective and offer immediate results, however, these results are not permanent. Every patient is different, but lip enhancement with filler does require regular treatments to maintain optimal results. Depending on the filler used, treatments can be done annually or several times a year. You and your aesthetic specialist can choose a lip filler that works best for your specific needs.

Our Favorite Dermal Fillers For Lip Enhancement

Below are details on the most popular dermal fillers for lip enhancement. For additional details and information, please visit our Injectables Guide.

Restylane Silk is the first FDA-approved dermal filler created specifically to add volume to the lips and treat wrinkles on and around the mouth. We love this long-lasting gel because it provides sexy, soft, full, natural-looking lips.

Restylane Kysse is the first lip filler that uses XpresHAn Technology™ for natural-looking volume and flexible movement that lasts for up to 1 year. Restylane Kysse allows patients to enhance the color and texture of their lips while maintaining a natural range of expressions. Additionally, Restylane Kysse causes less initial swelling than other filler products.

Restylane is a long-lasting HA filler with a more substantial formula intended to create flexible, natural-looking, and feeling volume in the lip and mouth area.

Juvederm Volbella is one of our favorite dermal fillers for lip enhancement. This HA filler produces incredibly smooth results and minimal swelling. And because this gel-based formula absorbs less water than other similar fillers, it offers dependable, consistent results with less swelling and bruising.

JUVÉDERM Ultra XC is ideal for patients that desire more projection of the lips or those that are seeking more dramatic results. Juvederm offers a slightly firmer feel and provides long-lasting lip enhancement results.

How Much Does Lip Enhancement With Dermal Fillers Cost?

The cost of lip enhancement with dermal fillers depends on several factors, such as the number of syringes and products used to achieve your desired look. In general, lip enhancement with dermal fillers costs anywhere from $700 – $1400.

Commonly Combined Procedures With Lip Enhancement Using Dermal Fillers

Lip enhancement may only be one aspect of correcting an aging appearance. The benefits of using dermal fillers to add volume and definition to the lips are greatly enhanced when combined with dermal fillers to add volume in other areas of the face, such as nasolabial folds, temporal hollows, and cheeks. A multi-treatment approach that includes a proper skincare regimen, along with other cosmetic treatments such as regular peels, laser treatments, and BOTOX® offers patients the best results.
